Browncoad at Warhmmer Alliance wrote a really good fair article on Open Field v instanced Pvp and thier place in an MMO. I would like to hear what you all think? Ill post my opinion in another post so that this on is clean of my bias.

I personally have more attunement to the Open field battles i want to be able to gather my army of friends and allies and go conquer something....anything....even if it was just a keep in Emain that I will lose in an hour....  Grin

In WAR we will have keeps to sieze Cities to Pillage and manymany enemy to kill in the name of Sigmar the Empire!!! ....damn there is that bias thing coming out. <kicks it back into the box> I jus love the give and take of a dynamic everchanging battle. that allows MORE BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!!....where did that come from....

I do feel though that Instaned PvP has its place and the individual scenarios hopefully will be unique, well thought out and fun. I will not avoid them in the least. They are awesome forthe people that do not have alot of time to roam a battlefield to find meaninful fighs. Even with that I want open field hectic, mahem induced WAAAAAGGHHHH!!! Well then I need a break from all these influences on me.

I like open world such as the way it was in DAoC because it allows for absolutely massive battles, and this is what I want in an MMO.

Will you play in the instanced PvP areas? Or will you just open field?

Open field for me just like the original DAoC. Instanced battles don't give me that same thrill, for some reason they lack an edge that open pvp areas have. And I like the surprise element to it as well.

I agree fully as to the thrill but instanced battles can give a different thrill. If you have played WOW to the point of useing the BGs there is a cool thrill of playing a PvP game. Scenarios are going to be like that but more intense if the footage I have seen is good. They will offer different challanges and thrills. I think everyone should go into it with openmind and try it all.

Well for starters Open Field combat makes you learn to not suck much faster. A good example of this is playing on a PvP server in WoW. Generally speaking most players are better skill wise on a PvP server then PvE. I hate WoWs PvP but I have played on both server types and I acknowledge there is a big difference.

I do believe that instanced PvP has its place but I definitely love the concept of open world combat...it forces you to learn faster and play harder to stay alive. Instanced PvP is good for the object style combat. You know you want to PvP and you want to play king of the hill then there is something to fill that roll for you. I like the twists that WAR is implementing on their scenarios, it will definitely make them much more interesting and fun for everyone.

I'd have to see what both areas are like for myself, instead of what I see in videos.

And yeah ... can't wait to pillage a city in the name of Sigmar!

The sense of danger that comes from open-field, combined with the epicness of having huge amounts of people fighting make Open-world RvR much better for me ^^
